We have been awarded a grant from Sita Trust to refurbish the war memorial, railings, wall and the ground surface. This will hugely improve the building's appearance and prepare the grounds for the outdoor gardens. Works will start very soon.
BUILDING COMMUNITY FILM PROJECT

St Werburghs Centre has been selected to participate in a year-long film project alongside ten other projects around the country. The Building Community website is a video showcase for films made by projects involved in asset transfer over 12 months from July 2009.
The films are made in conjunction with The Asset Transfer Unit which offers advice and support to local people and organisations transforming land and buildings into vibrant community spaces.
The idea of this film project is to share experiences about how we are progressing with the refurbishment of the centre, the build of the annexe and the asset transfer. We are also trying to capture how it affects local people, staff, volunteers and our members. The aim is to tell a story over a year by using a combination of professional films and films taken by ourselves.
We have been working with Richard Tipple from Hub TV who has been producing the professional films and editing ours. Jules Young, a local filmmaker joined the project voluntarily in August and has been filming the progress of the build and interviewing people from members and residents to contractors and architects. Her skills and help have been invaluable to the development of this project.
Jules says ‘It has been really interesting finding out about the history of the St Werburghs Centre. I’ve been really enjoying it, meeting the Management Committee and documenting their stories. It is a very rewarding experience to be able to work in a creative way with local residents and to find out how they feel about their Community Centre’.
The films can be watched on
