July 2011

Tai Chi

From 22nd of July our successful Tai Chi workshops for over 50's will be run at a low cost, as usual every Friday at 2 pm. The participants, who appreciated the free classes so far agreed to contribute £3 each to the class to make the project sustainable. They all can see the benefits of regular exercise designed specially for them. NHS Bristol will support the project covering any shortfall for time being. Anyone can join at anytime. Exercise, energise and improve your balance! Under 50's are welcomed accompanying an older neighbour, a friend or a family member.

Tea Dance

Our Tea Dances will run monthly on the first Thursday of each month beginning on 1st of September. The sessions will be run as usual with refreshments served from 2.00 pm, followed by 2 hours gentle dance session in the Main Hall and finished with a cup of tea and an opportunity to socialise until 4.30 pm. No partner or previous experience needed.

For more information please contact the community centre on 0117 955 1351.

February 2011

From the beginning of March 2011 St Werburghs Centre will restart the free weekly workshops for over 50's. The project is funded by Active Bristol Fund administrated by Quartet Community Foundation and NHS Bristol small grants scheme. The classes will fill the gap in the Centre's wide range of activities.

Tai Chi will be lead by Dennison Joseph, known for his Essential Tai Chi classes which he has been running at the Centre for nearly 10 years. The free workshops will take place in the Main Hall every Friday from 2 to 3 pm. When the weather gets better the workshops will be moved to the Mina Road Park. No need to book, just drop in. Exercise, energise and improve your balance! Under 50's are welcomed accompanying an older neighbour, a friend or a family member.

Tea Dances will be facilitated by Norma Daykin, an experienced teacher of Salsa and Ballroom Dance. The sessions will be run on Thursdays and will start with refreshments served from 2.00 pm, followed by 2 hours gentle dance session in the Main Hall and finished with a cup of tea and an opportunity to socialise until 4.30 pm. No partner or previous experience needed.

Both workshops will run weekly from the beginning of March until 22nd of July 2011 (excluding school holidays).

CEILIDH - Friday, 18th February 2011

Posted by St Werburghs - 10/01/11 02:34PM - 0 Comments - news
7:30 pm - 11:30 pm

Come and learn to dance with us on our Celtic flavoured Ceilidh evening. A Ceilidh is an informal social event that involves dancing to live music. The evening will be hosted by “Banshee”, a multi-instrumental, energetic band with a caller, helping us with our jig. Do not worry if you are a beginner or an expert, or think you have two left feet- this evening is suitable for young and old of all experiences.

Our bar will have plenty of hot toddies and there will also be traditional food available.

Elina Kikili will perform Gypsy Khalbelia dance - a folk dance of the Gypsies of Rajasthan (India).

All proceeds from the event will be going towards improving St Werburghs Community Centre’s outdoor spaces.

The Ceilidh starts at 7:30pm and costs £6.00 adults, £4.00 concessions and £10.00 including a meal voucher.

All ages welcome.
