COMMUNITY GREEN SPACE 20th May 2010

Posted by St Werburghs - 17/05/10 10:58AM - 4 Comments - news
On Thursday 20th May there will be an exhibition/public meeting in the
Community Centre from 7 pm. We, a group of local residents, will be there to discuss the future of the green space at the corner of Warminster Road and Saxon Road (by the scrap yard).

Recently the land was occupied by a group of Eco Villagers who were
dramatically evicted on 5th May. As a result, the owners have agreed to
consult with us, the residents to possibly compromise on the plans for the
land. It is currently for sale with planning permission to build large
light industrial units very near to our houses. What we want is a GREEN
SPACE for everyone to enjoy. So come and find out more, give us your
ideas and maybe your support.

See you there!

NEWS FROM LEIGH COURT FARM

Posted by St Werburghs - 01/04/10 02:16PM - 252 Comments - news
Leigh Court Farm ltd is a small business devoted to growing organic vegetables and fruit for our box scheme and markets in Bristol and the surrounding area. We are employee owned, so all of the permanent staff have shares in the enterprise, and take on different management roles within the organization. We have 4 staff at present. We have been gradually expanding our business, and providing fresh organic produce to our customers, since 1999.

We have expanded our growing area from 20 acres to 28 acres this year. Production is spread out over 4 fields: the walled garden in Abbots Leigh, Portbury field, Failand Front Ground, and part of Bathing Pool fields in Wraxall. The varied soil types and microclimates available on these different sites enable us to grow a wide range of crops. All our fields are within 5 miles of Bristol.

Our weekly box scheme is a way of getting fresh produce from the grower to the consumer, with the minimum of time and distance between harvesting and eating. All of the packing and distribution is done on Thursdays so the boxes are as fresh as possible when they are picked up. This also means we can devote the rest of the week farming.
The box scheme customer benefits from this system because they have their own bespoke market garden, dedicated to providing them with better and more varied produce, season after season. The price you pay for the veg in our box is roughly 30% less than you would pay at a farmers market.

We offer both vegetable and/or fruit boxes ranging from £9 to £17, which cater for most needs. Boxes may be ordered and picked up from the St Werburghs Community Centre weekly or fortnightly. For more information please go to www.leighcourtfarm.org.uk

Local Organic Vegetable Boxes from Leigh Court Farm
may be picked up from St Werburghs Centre every Thursday between 4.30 – 6.30pm. To order, please call us on 01275 375756 or e-mail
