Thanks to funding by the Clothworker's Foundation, we were lucky enough to be able to commission local carpenter Ian Hayes of Rooted Furniture to build us a fabulous, eye-catching new reception desk for our lobby area.  Also our IT Room has been refurbished - we removed the old computer storage and installed wall lighting and curtains. We also bought a set of laptops for our beginners computer classes. The newly refurbished multifunctional room can be now used for anything from Tai Chi to computer training.

St Werburghs Centre is recruiting volunteers to help us with various and exciting projects – Picnic in the Park, film-making, bike repair project, photography & writing community newsletter, photography & co-ordination for new Community Centre's website, organising workshops and events and general administration, reception or care-taking tasks.

The Management Committee and Staff of the St Werburghs Centre are fully committed to the recruitment and support of volunteers within our organisation.
We hold the belief that volunteers can provide a variety of skills and experience that would not otherwise be available. We also recognise that volunteers require satisfying work and personal development and will seek to help our volunteers to meet these needs.
To find out more please download our Volunteer Policy.

If you would like to get involved and make a difference in your community please contact Linda Bell on 0117 955 1351 or e-mail

The Project will start in September, the workshops will be run weekly and we are looking for people who can commit to come for 8 weeks at the time.

The role will involve:

Gardening - Creating a mini allotment/garden using planters around the Community Centre, helping workshop attendees, sharing skills and knowledge, working with the Centre staff and other volunteers. The main focus is to teach how to grow food in small places, manage a small garden and how to plan it, so the crops fit the needs.

Cooking - running a series of cookery classes which will focus on how to cook fresh, healthy and well-balanced meals, we hope to get volunteers from all ethnic groups to share both recipes and cooking techniques, to include Somali, Arabic, Chinese, Polish, Japanese and Asian food.

We will need help with everything from sourcing the soil and plants to administrating and promoting the project! If you are enthusiastic about growing your own food and can spare a few hours each week, please contact us!
